Deputy mayor of Salitre died at age 75 without knowing if he was infected with coronavirus

In the absence of a site for cremation, the body would be buried.

The vice mayor of Salitre (Guayas), Jorge Orlando Semería, passed away on Wednesday night, March 25, at the age of 75.

His death came amid uncertainty about whether the cause of his death was due to coronavirus, because the test was carried out on Monday, March 23.

According to Mayor Julio Alfaro Mieles, the results of the medical examination are still unknown, adding that the people of Salitreño are shocked by the news.

Semería was a peasant social security doctor, he was retired, and since 2019 he was at the head of the Vice Mayor, after he won one of the councils for the alliance between Unidad Popular and the Salitreña Revolutionary Alliance.

Mieles reported that his partner suffered from hypertension, gout and diabetes, so he admitted that it was difficult to determine if his death was caused by one of these clinical pictures or by COVID-19.

He announced that this Thursday, March 26, the body of the vice mayor would be buried, because the canton does not have the facilities to cremate.
