Assemblyman Juan Cristóbal Lloret (RC) announced that they presented this May 18, 2020 the request for impeachment against the Minister of Economy, Richard Martínez, for alleged non-compliance with his duties.
One of the reasons is because the minister did not allocate resources to the Ministry of Health to respond to the health emergency of COVID-19, according to the resignation letter from former minister Catalina Andramuño, who denounces this lack of resources.
Another reason is because the government prioritized the economic interests of the 2020 bond holders, despite the request of the National Assembly, in agreement with all the political forces, including the ruling party, to request, on March 22, that they not debt is paid.
Lloret noted that on March 24 the Government paid USD $ 341 million. «They lied to us, first they said that they had paid only the capital, but they also paid interest,» he criticized.
In addition, they promote political prosecution for not effectively executing the reduction of costs of banking services and for signing the Letter of Intent with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) without authorization from the Debt and Financing Committee.
«We demand that the President of the Assembly, with the same speed that the last Laws were approved, qualify and immediately begin the impeachment against Minister Richard Martínez,» added the Assemblyman.
In the Legislative Administration Council (CAL) there are still at least two requests for impeachment against Martínez for different causes.
