Ecuadorian government announces lower wages and new layoffs in the public sector

In addition, the president warned that 10 ministries and public companies will be eliminated and merged

On the morning of this Tuesday, May 19, the President of the Republic, Lenín Moreno, announced a new package of economic measures for the country.

Among the initiatives proposed by the Executive include the reduction of the wage bill in the public sector by USD 940 million, the reduction of capital spending by USD 1.3 billion and the renegotiation of external debt.

Moreno warned that Executive Function workers will have a reduction in their working hours and in their wages. They will work 6 hours a day.

This measure would not apply to personnel who provide health services, the police, the armed forces, and the rest of the security officials.
