45% would correspond to Pichincha and 25% to Guayas
In the last 26 days, the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IEES) reported 50,000 disaffiliations, according to figures handled by the Quito and Guayaquil Chambers of Commerce.
This figure starts from May 14, when 150,000 separations were already marked, since the coronavirus pandemic began. To date, the number stands at 200,000 people who lost their jobs.
Of the total challenges, 70% correspond to the provinces with the most inhabitants in the country: 45% to Pichincha, while 25% to Guayas.
For his part, the president of the Guayaquil Chamber of Commerce (CCG), Pablo Arosemana, explained that the loss of employment is due to the absence of effective measures by the Government to grant liquidity and productive isolation.
In the same way, he revealed that currently there are only 1.8 million dependent private workers who contribute to Social Security and warned that if the number continues to fall, it will be a problem to cover benefits.
Other estimates, such as those of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), project that up to 500,000 formal jobs could be lost in Ecuador throughout 2020.
It should be remembered that the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC) reported in December 2019 that the adequate employment rate in the country was only 38.8%.
