More than 400 tourists were evicted in Crucita

Local authorities took measures to prevent flare-ups due to the pandemic.

More than 400 people who arrived at the Crucita beach, Portoviejo parish, in Manabí, over the weekend, were evicted, to avoid a relapse of the coronavirus.

Silvio Larrea, chief of territorial control of the Municipality, reported on this situation and indicated that also eight food outlets were notified for not complying with biosafety protocols.

The visit of the bathers was disseminated through social networks and raised questions to the local authorities, as the reopening of the beaches in the country has not yet been allowed.

The videos show congestion on the Paseo del Malecón avenue and groups of people with alcohol, others walking on the sand and sunbathing, without complying with basic biosecurity measures, such as keeping distance and wearing masks.

According to figures from the Ministry of Public Health, Portoviejo is the Manabi canton most affected by the coronavirus. As of July 13, 1,464 cases were reported.

The National COE plans to open the beaches for tourists on July 22, as part of a pilot plan.
