The judge ordered the change of precautionary measures.
Judge Francisco Mendoza called former President Abdalá Bucaram Ortiz to trial for the alleged crime of illicit trafficking in firearms and ammunition.
The judge changed the precautionary measures to the exmandatario and ordered the daily presentation before the authority, the prohibition of leaving the country and the use of the electronic shackle.
The diligence was carried out in the Albán Borja Judicial Unit, in Guayaquil, following the request of the Prosecutor’s Office that is in charge of the investigation.
Bucaram was arrested on June 3 during the search of his home as part of the investigation for alleged embezzlement in the acquisition of medical supplies for the Guayaquil Social Security Hospital during the health emergency.
That day, the agents found a firearm in their residence, the origin of which was not justified and for which a new process was initiated.
That day, the former president was arrested, but later the judicial authorities ordered his house arrest. Precautionary measure that this Friday, July 17, was modified.
