Agglomerations in public transport in Quito will be sanctioned with four basic salaries

The use of the mask will continue to be mandatory in all public spaces, including transportation.

On Sunday, September 13, 2020, the state of exception in the country will end, for which reason, authorities of the Municipality of Quito foresee an increase in passengers on public transport in the Capital. The hours of operation have been extended and the number of units that provide the service was also increased.

According to the provisions of the Metropolitan Emergency Operations Committee (COE), buses in the capital, Troles and Ecovías must circulate with 50% of their capacity from Monday to Saturday. The authorities decided that public transport will circulate again on Sundays.

The Quito mayor’s office issued resolution A-060, where it made the “Hoy Circula” mobility plan official.

This resolution, A-060, also establishes that if there are agglomerations in public transport, the penalty will be 4 basic salaries. On the other hand, the Quito Passenger Company reported that between January and March the Trolleybus, Ecovías and the South-Eastern Corridor mobilized more than 500.000 people per day; however, from June to September the figure remains between 160.000 and 200.000 passengers.

The buses will have to circulate with 40% of their frequencies and there will be periodic evaluations that consider an increase in the number of units. According to the municipal ordinance of April 6, wearing a mask is mandatory in all public places, including transportation.
