Mount Sinai in red for coronavirus cases

In this popular sector of Guayaquil the restriction measures are not complied with.

For those who live from day to day it is difficult for them to remain in confinement, that is why Monte Sinaí, a popular area located northwest of Guayaquil, has become the one with the most coronavirus infections in the Main Port.

It is estimated that more than 300 thousand people live in this sector, which was born from illegal settlements. In this place the quarantine remains in words because the reality is different.

After 3:00 pm, the commercial movement and flow of people is normal, isolation is not met. Even a study contracted by the Guayaquil municipality revealed that this is the sector with the highest percentage of infected in the city.

Despite the fact that the police try to remind them daily that the curfew is maintained, in front of the uniformed men they walk without the protection measures.

They don’t wear masks and go out to work out of necessity, so staying confined is not an option.

The cantonal COE reported that since the pandemic began, some 800,000 people, or 33% of its population, have been infected in this city. But the figure could be more alarming since it could add 15% or 20% of false negatives.

This means that one million would be infected, in the event that the appropriate measures are not taken.
