The sector expects to recover in 2021.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is concerned about the losses that will be generated this year in airlines.
According to IATA, an annual loss of USD 84,000 million is estimated, which makes 2020 the “worst year in the history of aviation”.
The Association expects passenger traffic to increase 55% in 2021, although it will still remain 29% below its 2019 level.
As air travel around the world becomes more active, airlines calculate the cost of the weeks of standstill, an increase in debt and a lower prospect of future demand.
IATA CEO Alexandre de Juniac noted that an additional $ 15.8 billion injury to the industry is anticipated in 2021 that would add to other items that would total $ 100 billion in losses largely attributable to the pandemic.
It was revealed that in order to regain traffic, airlines are reducing fares to attract customers.
IATA urged governments to refrain from taking quarantine measures that prevent most travel, arguing that security measures on board, including the mandatory use of masks, are the most appropriate.
