At the moment, he has not confirmed his candidacy for the 2021 elections
The Vice President of the Republic, Otto Sonnenholzner, presented his irrevocable resignation to the vice presidency. This resignation would have been based on the rupture of relations that he had with various government authorities and with President Moreno himself a few months ago; although, in his farewell speech, he thanked the President for «giving him the opportunity to serve the country.»
Sonnenholzner thanked for the opportunity to serve the country from the Vice Presidency. He indicated that he has never felt like a politician or a candidate, due to this, he indicated that he will resign his life salary and the security that corresponds to him for the position he held.
“I don’t feel and I have never felt like a politician. Today, as we face a more stable situation, I can make this decision. I prefer to leave as I entered and that I will do, I will leave here with my head held high and my wife’s hand ».
This decision had already been announced unofficially several days ago, although the Ministry of Communication flatly denied all this.
On the other hand, Sonnenholzner indicated that he does not have time for surveys because he does not have money and at the moment he does not think about a candidacy for 2021. However, he explained that these elections will be one of the most relevant in the history of Ecuador.
To conclude, he indicated that all the work he did from the Vice Presidency he did without thinking about a political scenario.
