Cepeda affirmed that, in practice, Uribe has incited public opinion to commit a «riot» against the Court.

Colombian Senator Iván Cepeda will report to the United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, on the «attack against the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) and its magistrates.»

Likewise, Cepeda warned that «the speed with which the prosecutor Barbosa acts may entail the purpose of producing all kinds of openly illegal decisions, starting with ordering the release of Uribe, circumventing all adherence to the rules.»

In a virtual press conference, the senator expressed this Friday that with these actions, in practice, Uribe has incited public opinion to commit a «riot» against the Court, actions that have already been denounced.

In Cepeda’s opinion, «the national government has been put at Uribe’s service for this and has used from Iván Duque to ambassadors, even with diplomatic relations.»

On the other hand, Cepeda commented on the decision of the attorney general, Francisco Barbosa, to designate Gabriel Jaime as the person in charge of the investigation, an «illegal act» of the Prosecutor’s Office, despite the prosecutor’s request for recusal.

The senator also recalled that the prosecutor Francisco Barbosa was informed in writing on September 2 that he was challenged.

«When an official is challenged, it is not possible for him to take any action. To do so is to act openly against the law. It is unacceptable that the prosecutor has mocked the challenge we made,» Cepeda pointed out.

In this sense, the senator indicated that a challenge will be presented against the delegate prosecutor before the CSJ Gabriel Jaimes, for being also prevented from acting in the Uribe case.
