In Ecuador, airports resume activities and humanitarian flights end

About 13 thousand Ecuadorians returned to the country under this mechanism.

 Once operations at the Guayaquil and Quito airports resumed, the Foreign Ministry’s management with the airlines to repatriate compatriots who were unable to return to the country due to restrictions due to the health emergency, was terminated.

On March 16, the national Emergency Operations Committee (COE) interrupted air operations bound for Ecuador, thousands of people were unable to return to the country. From that moment, the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry began managing to allow the return of the Ecuadorians.

Under this mechanism, 12,801 people managed to return on humanitarian flights.

According to Foreign Minister José Valencia, this has been hard work, because the airlines were not operating normally.

A total of 123 international humanitarian flights were organized and at least 12,801 people returned on these flights. A quarter of them were free and 404 courtesy tickets were obtained for people in need.

In total, Ecuadorians returned from 55 destinations, on five continents.
