607,417 people make up the passive electoral registry. The CNE gives until June 19 to appeal.
As part of the reforms to the Democracy Code that will govern the next presidential elections, the National Electoral Council (CNE) approved the publication of the passive electoral register. This means that 607,417 people will leave the electoral roll.
Passive registration is the list of people who have not exercised their right to vote in the last four elections and who have not carried out any formalities at the CNE. For its elaboration, the two rounds of the 2017 presidential elections, the popular consultation and referendum of 2018 and the sectional elections of 2019 were considered.
The people who make up the passive registry will not be able to vote in the Andean presidential, legislative and parliamentary elections, scheduled for February 7, 2021. But, in the event that they go to the voting tables, they will receive a presentation certificate.
The CNE gives until June 19 for citizens who wish to appeal this decision. From that date, political organizations will also receive the passive electoral register so that they can make observations within 15 days.
